FAQ
Yes it does. Studies show that light therapy delivered by the 120 RL relieves many painful conditions including: diabetic and other peripheral neuropathies, back and neck pain, and arthritic pain.

Medication decisions are personal and should be made after consulting a doctor. Although you may read in our testimonials of patients who were able to reduce or discontinue their medications, we do not advise patients to change dosage or stop taking medication without consulting their health care provider. In fact some medications used to treat RLS should never be stopped abruptly so always consult with your doctor.
There will be no noise coming from the device. In fact you will not even see the light because light at 890nm is outside the visible range of our eyes. You'll know the machine is on when the green indicator light is on and you'll feel a soothing warmth from the therapy pads.
We sincerely hope so. Clinical research strongly indicates that it will. However, there is no way to know until you try. It is because of that uncertainty that we offer our 60-day money back guarantee for all who purchase a model 120 RL. Learn more.
Absolutely. Read more about our 60-day money back guarantee here
No. Light therapy is not addictive. You may not want to give up the extra sleep you'll recover from using the treatment however...
Clinical trials were based on 30 minute treatments so we recommend a treatment lasting from 20 to 40 minutes. If you are keeping track of your progress, you will be the best judge to determine whether or not you need a longer or a shorter treatment.
Yes. Most of our greatest success stories come from individuals who have severe RLS symptoms. In fact, one of Dr. Mitchell's first patients was a severe sufferer who had great success. Hear Dr. Mitchell tell about it in her own words here.
Patients in the published clinical studies received 3 treatments per week for 4 weeks because they had to go to a therapy clinic for treatment. Patients using the 120 RL can conveniently treat themselves every day and those patients who treated every day obtained favorable results. When they stopped treatments for a week or two symptoms returned. We recommend applying the treatment everyday for the first 90 days. You can treat several times per day if you wish but separate each treatment by a few hours. After 90 days, decrease the number of treatments to 3-5 treatments a week. If your RLS symptoms do not worsen then continue at this treatment frequency. If they worsen, you may have to increase the frequency of treatment.
Yes but only on your legs or arms. Do NOT place the therapy pads over your womb or lower back if you are pregnant. There are no published reports that show negative side effects of using light therapy while pregnant but this is good common sense.
Yes. We have more success stories than we have put here on our site. You may read about the ones we've posted here. If you'd like to share your success story, please let us know here.
There are no published reports of adverse health consequences resulting from the long term use of light therapy. Anodyne therapy, LLC has been manufacturing its products for nearly 20 years. It conducts post market surveillance as part of its regulatory responsibility to the FDA and Health Canada and it has never encountered an adverse consequence due to long term use.
Your doctor may be aware of light therapy in general. Light therapy has been used throughout the world for more than 30 years to treat acute and chronic conditions. Several thousand studies have been published on its use. The studies supporting the use of light therapy to treat RLS are relatively new and published in medical journals primarily read by physical therapists so please feel free to share our studies with your doctor.
Based on the data in Dr. Mitchell’s published studies, there was substantial improvement in symptoms within 2 weeks. Some patients notice a difference after just one treatment. We suggest daily treatment for at least 60 days to determine if this treatment is effective for you.
The 120 RL is a new product and while it has been registered with Health Canada for sale, insurance companies normally do not pay for new products.
Light at 890nm penetrates into the body where it is absorbed by tissue. Light at this wavelength is very well absorbed by blood where it results in the release of a signaling molecule known as nitric oxide (NO). Through a cascade of biological events the nitric oxide increases capillary blood flow to the muscles and nerves to relieve pain, calm nerves and reduce muscle tension and spasm. According to published clinical studies, this biological activity is able to reduce the symptoms of restless leg syndrome.
Thus far, 2 clinical studies and 1 case study have been conducted at a major US university and demonstrate the effectiveness of light therapy for RLS. Learn more.
Only 8.3% of all the patients in Dr. Mitchell's published clinical studies failed to benefit from treatment-even those patients who had not benefitted from using prescription medications for their RLS obtained significant benefit. The average improvement in those patients who responded to 12 treatments was about 52%. Some patients even experienced a complete reduction of all symptoms.
There are no side effects to light therapy from the model 120 RL. Anodyne Light Therapy devices have been registered with Health Canada since 2005 and cleared by the FDA in the United States since 1994 and have been safely used by tens of thousands of patients since that time. There are no contraindications or complications in using this product. However, there is a very slight risk of a topical burn. This risk is substantially less than when using an ordinary electric heating pad because the therapy pads produce far less heat.
